Here’s the first proper look at Jennifer Hudson as she plays the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in new film Respect.
The film follows Franklin from her beginnings as a young girl singing in her father’s church choir to her rise to fame, abusive marriage and involvement in the civil rights movement.
It will feature many of the singer’s hits, as well as Here I Am (Singing My May Home), an original song co-written by Hudson, Carole King and Jamie Hartman.
The new clip shows Hudson re-enacting Franklin’s performance at Madison Square Garden in the summer of 1968.
Respect will be released in the US on 13th August, and the UK on 10th September.
